"I Fear the Lord" was written to help lead our congregation through The Crossing's new sermon series on the book of Proverbs. The title comes from Proverbs 1:7, Solomon's statement of the source of wisdom in life. We hope this song captures the imagery and truth found in Proverbs and, more importantly, points us to the embodiment of true wisdom, Jesus Christ.
lyrics
Lyrics:
I heard the sound of Wisdom's voice,
call me from my darkened path:
"Turn your heart at my reproof,
to the light of my word's truth."
Save me from my foolish will
that listens to Temptation’s call.
I leave behind my mocking heart,
and Folly's voice, I disregard.
You are my God!
Help me walk in your wisdom's way.
You are my God!
Father, teach my heart to obey.
Help me seek your truth like gold,
Make my scoffer's heart rust old,
I cry to you, “Save my life!
Your wisdom is my true might!”
I fear the Lord!
The beginning of strength, in the fold of His might!
When I'm desperate and tried, You're the source of my life!
